Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine is founded on the premise that the body is intelligent and has the innate ability to restore balance to its system. Naturopathic physicians strive to identify the root cause of disease and remove the obstacles that prevent the body from returning to its natural state of wholeness. Similar to other physicians, Naturopaths review a patient’s complete medical history, perform physical exams, and order appropriate labs. They also spend ample time exploring the deeper aspects of one’s emotional and spiritual health, lifestyle and nutritional state. Once the primary imbalance is identified, a Naturopathic physician will work alongside their patient, empowering them to take strides toward a healthier state.

Naturopathic Approaches to Fertility

If the body is depleted or there is an absence of the necessary nutrients and cofactors available for proper metabolism, maladaption will occur. This is fundamentally true in cases of infertility where the body is often unable to provide the richness and abundance required to support conception and a healthy pregnancy. Once the body is replenished with wholesome food, extra nutrients and positive lifestyle changes it becomes a fertile ground in which to achieve and support a healthy conception and pregnancy.

A healthy conception requires the convergence of both prospective parents’ genetic makeup. Ideally, this genetic material has developed in an environment abundant with antioxidants and nutrients to support proper cellular functioning and has been protected from toxic exposures. Once conception has taken place, the need for nutrients and maintenance of health of both parents continues to grow.

Planning ahead for conception allows for optimization of both prospective parents’ health prior to conception. Our Preconception Program works with both partners to understand any underlying obstacles to health and creates a unique program to reach a state of wellness. This program is ideal for couples who are thinking about getting pregnant, those who are struggling with health issues related to conception, or couples currently facing fertility challenges.

Your First Naturopathic Visit

A complete medical history and physical exam will be performed at your first hour and a half visit. Any relevant labs will be reviewed and subsequent testing may be ordered. After discussing the issues facing the individual, a treatment plan will be developed and discussed with the patient. Often, nutritional and lifestyle modifications will be offered and any additional therapies reviewed with the patient.

Reproductive health is a complex interplay of several different systems in the body. In order to address your fertility issues, it is important to address any underlying imbalances in the body, including in the digestive and endocrine systems. Underlying sources of inflammation, such as food allergies or recurrent seasonal allergies will be explored. Detoxification may be appropriate for certain individuals based on their history and symptom picture. Physical medicine modalities such as Mayan Abdominal Massage, Acupuncture and Constitutional Hydrotherapy can be important adjunctive therapies in a holistic treatment approach.
